We already know that J.J. Abrams and members of the creative team sat down with George Lucas to discuss bringing the Skywalker saga to an end with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. This film had to wrap up eight previous movies, and six of those Lucas had a heavy hand in developing. So, it only makes sense to get Lucas’ thoughts on how he envisions the ending for the saga.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy explained that before Abrams and co-writer Chris Terrio wrote the script for this final film, they all sat down with Lucas and “took a lot of notes” about his ideas for how the Skywalker saga should end. While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Kennedy explained:

“We sat down with George for a long meeting before we ever put pen to paper on this final episode, so we had the benefit of his thoughts. We took a lot of notes. As Yoda would say, there’s great responsibility that goes with doing this, and I think we all take that seriously.”

I honestly hope that they actually implemented some of Lucas’ ideas into this movie! If they didn’t, what the hell was the point of sitting down with him to talk to him? It makes me wonder if when they all came together, Lucas was like, “ Are you actually going to listen to me this time?” As you know, he was disappointed when his ideas were ultimately discarded in the past.

Regardless, Lucas was kind enough to meet with the team, especially after wanting to distance himself from the franchise. Lucas previously explained:

“They weren’t that keen to have me involved anyway. But at the same time, I said if I get in there I’m just going to cause trouble. Because they’re not going to do what I want them to do. And I don’t have the control to do that anymore. All I would do is muck everything up. So I said, ‘Okay, I will go my way, and I’ll let them go their way.’”

It’ll be interesting to know how many if any of Lucas’ ideas made it into the final cut of the film, which hits theaters on December 20, 2019.
