You want to see something amazing!? A fan-made trailer was released for The Star Wars that awesomely brings Ralph McQuarrie‘s vision of the film to life. As you know, McQuarrie’s concept art is what gave us the visual style of George Lucas‘ legendary sci-fi fantasy franchise. A lot of the art that McQuarrie came up with was never used.
Early on in the development of the film, it was called The Star Wars, and McQuarrie’s early designs would have given it a completely different look and feel. There were also a lot of different story elements as well that were never used.
Well, Visual Effects students at the DAVE school in Florida created an incredibly awesome concept trailer that shows us what The Star Wars would have looked like with these early designs from McQuarrie brought to life. This is seriously the coolest thing that I’ve seen today and if you’re a hardcore Star Wars fan, you’re going to absolutely love it!
A long time ago in a galaxy far far away… we might have seen a version of Star Wars that featured a Han Solo with green skin and gills, Stormtroopers with lightsabers, and a female heroine named Luka Starkiller.
Many of these anomalies can be seen in concept artist, Ralph McQuarrie’s early illustrations of the Star Wars universe. While looking back at these early paintings we can’t help but wonder what Star Wars would have been like had it remained loyal to the concept art and early drafts of the script.
The DAVE School graduating class of August and October 2017 have answered that question by bringing Ralph McQuarrie’s paintings to life in a concept trailer for what might have been… The Star Wars.
I’m in awe, and I want to see this as a full movie now!
