Since J.J. Abrams introduced us to the Knights of Ren in a flashback scene in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, fans have been wondering if we would see more of them in future films. I’d personally like to get some additional information on the Knights of Ren, find out who they are and how they fit into the saga.
After failing to appear in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, fans have wondered if Abrams would include them in Episode IX. It would make sense to see them show up again, and according to a recent report, they will.
The news comes from the same source on Reddit that recently shared information on The Mandalorian as well as Kylo Ren’s helmet and new droid character. When asked if the Knights of Ren would be showing up in the film, he said:
“Yes! I totally forgot about them but they will definitely be in the next movie… They did show numerous pictures/artwork of them. I wish I had more details but at the very least it seems like they will play a bigger role than previous films. While I’m a Star Wars fan, I’m not a superfan like many of you so a lot of names/details/places probably were wasted on someone like me.”
So, there it is. There’s a chance that Abrams will be playing with the Knights of Ren a little more. We have no idea how they will be utilized in the story, so at this point it’s up to the fans to speculate about how they might be used or how they’d like to see them used.
When talking about why he didn’t included the Knights of Ren in The Last Jedi, Director Rian Johnson said:
“We have a very full movie already there literally was just not room for another element…I guess I could’ve used them in place of the Praetorian guards but then it would feel like wasting them because all those guards had to die. And if Kylo had some kind of connection to them it would’ve added a complication that wouldn’t have helped the scene…truth is I just didn’t see a place for them in the movie.”
Hopefully Abrams actually did a place for them in his film! Star Wars: Episode IX is set to be released on December 20th, 2019.
