This is in line with what Johnson has said over a year ago, “I’m still working with Lucasfilm on it, and they’re figuring out when they do what and everything.” So, I guess they’re still figuring it out.

When previously talking about the film, Johnson discussed the challenge of developing a new story set in the Star Wars universe:

“We’re doing something that steps beyond the legacy of the characters. What does it look like? To me, the blue sky element of it is what was most striking about it. I know that I’m coming at it and what’s fun about it for everyone in George Lucas’ films is figuring it out, ‘what’s the next step?’ It really makes you think and figure out what the essence of Star Wars is for me and what that will look like moving forward.”

His movie is going to be set during a different corner of the Star Wars universe and will feature all new characters. I’m really curious to see what the Star Wars franchise will look like with a completely new story that isn’t attached to anything from the original saga.

With the way the Star Wars franchise has evolved since The Mandalorian was released, and fans are loving the franchise again, it’ll be interesting to see what Johnson has cooking for his project. Hopefully, it doesn’t divide the fans again like The Last Jedi did.
