“Twas the night before life day, in a galaxy far far away.”
Disney has released the first trailer for Lucasfilm’s upcoming LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special. It reunites LEGO versions of Rey, Finn, Poe, Chewie, Rose, and the droids for a joyous feast on Life Day, which is the holiday first introduced in the classic 1978 special.
The story focuses on Rey as she finds herself unexpectedly colliding with the past of Star Wars in events that take place in the original trilogy, the prequel trilogy, and even The Mandalorian.
The animated Holiday Special follows the events in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and follows Rey as she leaves her friends to prepare for Life Day “as she sets off on a new adventure with BB-8 to gain a deeper knowledge of the Force. At a mysterious Jedi Temple, she is hurled into a cross-timeline adventure through beloved moments in Star Wars cinematic history, coming into contact with Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Yoda, Obi-Wan and other iconic heroes and villains from all nine Skywalker saga films. But will she make it back in time for the Life Day feast and learn the true meaning of holiday spirit?”
It’s not the Star Wars Holiday Special I was hoping for, but it looks like it will offer some amusing and silly entertainment for the fans to enjoy.
The cast for the special includes Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), as well as Star Wars: The Clone Wars vets Matt Lanter (Anakin Skywalker), Tom Kane (Yoda, Qui-Gon Jinn), James Arnold Taylor (Obi-Wan Kenobi), and Dee Bradley Baker (clone troopers).
LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special was directed by Ken Cunningham and written by David Shayne, who is also co-executive producer. Josh Rimes, Jason Cosler, Jacqui Lopez, Jill Wilfert, and Keith Malone are executive producers.
The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special streams November 17th on Disney+. Watch the trailer and let us know what you think!
