New Details Revealed For THE MANDALORIAN "Making of" Documentary Series

Last week it was announced that Disney and Lucasfilm were producing an 8-episode documentary series that will dive into the making of Jon Favreau’s Star Wars series The Mandalorian. The series is titled Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian, and it will offer an unprecedented look at the making of the series.

Each chapter will explore topics that include the “filmmaking process, the legacy of George Lucas’ Star Wars, how the cast brought the characters to life, the series’ groundbreaking technology, the artistry behind the show’s practical models, effects, and creatures, plus the creative influences, the iconic score, and connections to Star Wars characters and props from across the galaxy.”

The series will also feature interviews with the creative talent involved, never-before-seen footage, and roundtable conversations hosted by Favreau.

Disney has now revealed some additional information in the form of brief summaries for each of the first four episodes. These offer a little more insight into what we can expect from the docuseries:

Episode 101 “Directing”:

In the first episode, the filmmakers speak about their individual journeys on the way to the director’s chair and take us inside the filmmaking process of The Mandalorian.

Episode 102 “Legacy”:

The team behind The Mandalorian examines the profound impact of George Lucas’ STAR WARS.

Episode 103 “Cast”:

Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, and Carl Weathers discuss the making of The Mandalorian.

Episode 104 “Technology”:

Favreau and team reveal how a new filmmaking technology was used to bring The Mandalorian to life.

While all of this sounds cool, the episode I’m excited about most in the technology episode. There’s going to be a lot of cool stuff to see there, especially with Stagecraft tech that they use, which combines practical and digital effects.

Favreau said in a Disney press release:

“‘Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian’ is an opportunity for fans of the show to take a look inside and get to see a different perspective, and perhaps a greater understanding, of how The Mandalorian came together and some of the incredibly talented contributors throughout Season 1,” Favreau said in a Disney press release. We had a great experience making the show and we’re looking forward to sharing it with you.”

Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian will premiere on Disney+ on May 4, 2020.
