We’ve got some big news today for Star Wars fans! Iron Man and The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau is officially set to write and executive produce a live-action Star Wars series for Lucasfilm! I’ve been a fan of Jon Favreau ever since I saw Swingers, and it’s so freakin’ cool to see him get the chance to play in the Star Wars universe!
After Disney bought Lucasfilm, we heard about a lot of different filmmakers meeting with the studio about their upcoming film projects. Favreau was one of those filmmakers. A lot of fans were hoping he would get to develop a Star Wars film, but a series is just as exciting! Now he’s found a Star Wars project that he wants to commit to. We don’t have any details on what the series will entail, but Favreau had this to say in a statement:
“If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldn’t have believed you. I can’t wait to embark upon this exciting adventure.”
Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm president added:
“I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform. Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”
I’m so excited for Favreau and I can’t wait to see what he and the Lucasfilm team are planning for this live-action Star Wars series! It’s expected to air on Disney’s upcoming streaming service.
What do you all think about Jon Favreau jumping in the Star Wars playground to play?
