HARLEY QUINN Season 3 Will Explore Poison Ivy's Origin and Jim Gordon's Low Approval in Gotham

Last week, we got the exciting news that DC Entertainment’s Harley Quinn animated series was officially renewed for Season 3. Thanks to showrunners Patrick Schumacker and Justin Halpern we now have some new details to share with you regarding what we can expect from the upcoming season.

During an interview with CB, it’s explained that the series will explore the origin of Poison Ivy and Jim Gordon’s low approval of the Gotham City Police Department. Halpern said:

“I definitely think we are going to see Gordon grapple with his, how should I say it, his low approval in Gotham city and the low approval of the police department in Gotham city. I think we’re going to see… we’re going to dive a little more into Ivy’s life and then history. Origins. I think we’re going to do that. I think those are really the only two things we’ve really kind of hit on so far in our preliminary discussions that were like, ‘Yes, definitely want to do those things'”

He went on to explain what they don’t want to do with Season 3 saying:

“I know we don’t want to do a ‘Are they going to break up, or are they not going to break up?’ thing. I don’t think we want this to be the stakes of the season. I think we want to see… I mean, there’ll be obviously be conflict and tensions between the two of them when certain things go wrong. But I don’t think we want that to be… we spent two years playing that, or two seasons, I don’t think we want to do that for a third season. So that’s what we don’t want to do.”

We don’t have a release date for Season 3 yet, but the team is hoping to get it out by the end of next year. Schumacker explained:

“We don’t know all the details of them, but we know it’s been an ongoing conversation. It’s been very difficult to be vague online while also being optimistic. Because there’s a ton of people out there that contact us on the regular, just wanting to know like, ‘Is there going to be season three?’ and all we can kind of say up until now is, ‘Keep the faith that we feel pretty good about it,’ which was the truth, but we never… up until [Wednesday], the deal was not done. But I think what Justin is saying it’s probably at the earliest late 2021.”

The voice cast ncludes Kaley Cuoco as Harley Quinn, Alan Tudyk (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Powerless) as the Joker, Lake Bell (In a World…, Wet Hot American Summer series, Childrens Hospital), Ron Funches (Powerless), JB Smoove (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Jason Alexander (Seinfeld), Wanda Sykes (Black-ish), Giancarlo Esposito (Bob Roberts, Breaking Bad), Natalie Morales (Bojack Horseman), Jim Rash (Mike Tyson Mysteries), Diedrich Bader (Veep), Tony Hale (Arrested Development, Veep), Chris Meloni (Happy!, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit), and The Penguin is voiced by Wayne Knight.

The series follows Harley, who, after finally leaving the Joker, is trying “her damndest to join the Legion of Doom with the help – or hindrance – of a whole cast of not-so super villains from all corners of Gotham City.”

The series comes from Powerless producers Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, Dean Lorey, and Kaley Cuoco. Harley Quinn Season 3 will premiere on HBO Max rather than DC Universe.
