Actor Diego Luna has put in some solid performances over the years in films like Y Tu Mamá También, Frida, Milk, If Beale Street Could Talk, and most recently, Narcos: Mexico. But he was launched onto many fanboys’ and fangirls’ radar when he appeared in the 2016 Star Wars story Rogue One. The movie was great, and it gained a good following of fans, but like any Star Wars film before or after it, it also had its critics.

One thing it also had was fans wanting more of those characters’ story, and Disney+ stepped in to answer that call with a prequel series that centers around those characters.

The film featured Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, Alan Tudyk as K-2SO, Donnie Yen as Chirrut Imwe, Wen Jiang as Baze Malbus, Ben Mendelsohn as Orson Krennic, Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera, Riz Ahmed as Bodhi Rook, and Jimmy Smits as Bail Organa, as well as James Earl Jones and Anthony Daniels reprising their iconic roles as Darth Vader and C-3PO, respectively, and so many others. The incredible ensemble is really what made the film.

Luna and Tudyk are the only two confirmed to return so far, but I’m sure we will see many more of the iconic cast.

Luna sounds pretty pumped about the series, and expressed as much in a recent interview with IndieWire. He credited much of his great experience in the film to the “practical sets as creating a tangible fantasy world he loved getting lost in and playing around in.” He also said that going into a prequel creates a challenge, as the fans know the ending of the story already, so they can’t lean on a big reveal to save them. He said:

“I can’t really talk about it. The thing I can tell you, and it’s a nice challenge and it’s a great way to approach a show, but what happens when you already know the ending?” Luna said. “Then it becomes about the story. Everything is in how you tell the story and how many different layers you can find. This can’t be a show now where at the end we surprise you with like, ‘Oh no it wasn’t him!’ We’ve already seen the ending.”

He continued:

“If you think about it, ‘Rogue One’ started with the same task. The last scene of ‘Rogue One’ is a scene we all know. It makes another part of your brain work [as a storyteller]. You can’t use the same formulas for storytelling you’ve known all your life with this because it’s very different. The big thing is now we start with a character that people already know what he’s capable of.”
