Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley Talk Kylo and Rey's Relationship in Upcoming STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER

In a recent piece for Vanity Fair, many cast members of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker were interviewed about the highly anticipated last Star Wars film in the saga. Fans are excited and nervous about the finale, and rumors and speculation abound while we wait. One major aspect of the last film that everyone is looking for resolve on is the relationship between Kylo Ren, played by Adam Driver, and Rey, played by Daisy Ridley.

There is an obvious connection between the two, as we have seen them link their minds and grow in their powers of the Force. But what does the future hold for the pair? Driver commented on the relationship by saying:

And then he had been forging this maybe-bond with Rey, and it kind of ends with the question in the air: is he going to pursue that relationship, or when the door of her ship goes up, does that also close that camaraderie that they were maybe forming?

There was a clear moment in The Last Jedi when Rey was thinking that Kylo was coming back to the light side, but it turned out he was not, and he wanted Rey to join him on the dark side. Ridley had this to say about Rey’s thoughts on Kylo Ren:

I think there’s a part of Rey that’s like, dude, you fucking had it all, you had it all. That was always a big question during filming: you had it all and you let it go.

Rey is obviously confused and upset by Kylo, especially after learning who the family is that he betrayed and left behind. She grew to love Han, Leia, and Luke, and they were the closest thing to a family that she had had in a long time. But she couldn’t have known all the complicated aspects that went into what made Ben Solo turn into Kylo Ren. Driver went on to talk about the complexity of his character making connections:

How do you form friendships out of that? How do you understand the weight of that? And if there’s no one around you guiding you, or articulating things the right way … it can easily go awry.

It’s interesting to speculate how it will all pan out. Rey’s lineage, the relationship, whether we will see certain characters again, and what one major bad guy is doing back in the picture. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will hit theaters on December 20th. What are some of your theories?
