Oscar Issac Reiterates That EPISODE IX Is the End of the Skywalker Saga, Which Seems Like a Huge Spoiler to Me

Every minute this swiftly tilting planet spins closer to the release of Episode IX, or at least to the release of a trailer or even a title, and we know pretty much nothing about what is hopefully J.J. Abrams’ magnum opus. Except one small thing, maybe. When Disney acquired LucasFilm and started pumping out new movies, they were very clear on the distinction between the “Skywalker saga” films — the main trilogies — and the spinoff “A Star Wars Story” films —Solo, Rogue One. So we’ve sort of known for awhile that the Skywalker saga was ending after Episode IX, but LucasFilm has been reiterating that in their marketing, making sure to affirm that this is “the final installment of the Skywalker saga.”

Poe Dameron himself, Oscar Isaac, was recently on the Today Show to promote Triple Frontier, and when the subject turned to his role in Star Wars, he said,

“It is the end of the entire Skywalker saga. Nine stories. This is the culmination of the thing. I think what J.J. has done, and really the whole Lucasfilm team, is going to be incredibly fulfilling. It’s also special for us because you get to learn a lot more things about these characters.”

What I find really interesting about this is that with the studio’s extreme emphasis on secrecy, this is the thing he has been told/allowed to say, because to me it really makes it sound like Ben Solo/Kylo Ren dies at the end of Episode IX (it is really annoying that we don’t know the title yet). With the death of Carrie Fisher, we know that they are also sending off General Leia Organa (that hurts to type), leaving Ren as the last living Skywalker, and if he keeps on living his best life, there will be more stories about his attempts to take over the world. Or there could even be like a My Name Is Earl type thing where he goes around to make restitution for all his past wrongs if he turns back to the light side of the Force. Or he could marry Rey and have a million tiny babies who are strong in the Force and keep the story going.

So, it’s weird to me that they are like, we’re not telling you ANYTHING, except for how it definitely ends. So maybe (hopefully?) I am completely wrong and Kylo is alive and happy somewhere in the outer rim when the credits roll. What do you think about it?
