Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation opened to No. 1 in most of its 40 markets and the highest opening ever in those same markets and it will log in as highest ever weekend opening for a Tom Cruise movie in 25 countries. It rode in with about $600K less than estimated over the weekend but still stellar and has yet to bow in China.
The fifth Mission: Impossible is the best of the series so far, and is my favorite action movie of the summer. Tom Cruise proves that he can still be an action star, and Rebecca Ferguson holds her own opposite Cruise. She was the surprise of the movie for me. Simon Pegg is always great as Benji, and he is Ethan Hunt’s sidekick for the last 3/4 of the film, which provides for excellent comic relief. As was the case with Ghost Protocol, the Mission:Impossible series has improved leaps and bounds over the sub-par third installment. You don’t have to be a fan of the previous films to enjoy this smart and exciting summer thrill ride. 4.5 out of 5 stars.
