Lucasfilm Won't Be Making Any STAR WARS Films Specifically For Disney+

With Lucasfilm developing two live-action Star Wars shows for Disney+, some fans have been wondering if there are plans to develop any Star Wars films specifically for the new streaming service as well. Some of you will be happy to hear that the answer is no.

Disney and Lucasfilm will only develop Star Wars movies for the big screen… where they belong. This latest information comes from Disney CEO Bob Iger during an interview with Barron’s. Here’s what he had to say:

“Almost every movie the studio makes is a $100 million-plus movie, and we’re not looking to make movies at that level for the service. We’re looking to invest significantly in television series on a per-episode business, and we’re looking to make movies that are higher-budget, but nothing like that.”

“We wouldn’t make a Star Wars movie for this platform. When everybody goes out on the weekend and you have a movie that opens up to $200 million, there’s a buzz that creates that enhances value. We like that. And eventually the movies we’re making are going to [end up on] the service.”

I guess this means that we won’t be seeing any Marvel movies specifically made for Disney+ either. I’m completely fine with that. That’s the right move for the fans because I enjoy watching my Star Wars and Marvel films on the big screen! They can make all the Star Wars and Marvel shows that they want for Disney+, but it’s good to know they are keeping the movies on the big screen.

What are your thoughts on this? Were you hoping that Lucasfilm would make original Star Wars and Marvel movie content for Disney+ or are you happy that they will save that stuff for the big screen?
