It looks like Disney and Lucasfilm are going to go all out on Jon Favreau‘s upcoming live-action Star Wars series. There still aren’t many details about what is being planned for the series, but according to New York Times, the show is expected to cost $100 million to make. That will be spread across ten episodes, so the creative team will have $10 million an episode to work with. That’s comparable to the budget of Game of Thrones and Stranger Thinks, which had an $8 million per-episode budget.
I never thought that Disney would skimp out on the budget for the series. The quality needs to be on par with the features films that are released and $10 million an episode should give the series what it needs to give fans a top quality Star Wars series. The $100 million budget spread across ten episodes definitely makes it one of the priciest shows on TV.
It was already confirmed that the series would take place seven years after the events of Return of the Jedi and before the events of The Force Awakens. This is a time in the Star Wars Universe that hasn’t really been explored before. It was also revealed that the show will introduce us to all-new characters and will incorporate the “cutting edge tech” that Favreau used to help bring Disney’s The Jungle Book to life.
I can’t wait to see this series progress and how it will end up turning out. I’m a huge fan of Favreau’s work and the fact that he’s going to get to play in the Star Wars universe is exciting! It’s good to know that he will have a decent budget to bring his vision to life.
