Lucasfilm has started work on a secret new Star Wars film project and they’ve brought in Sleight directorJ.D. Dillard and Luke Cage and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. scribe Matt Owens to develop it.
The story for the film will reportedly take place on the dark hidden Sith planet of Exegol, which was first introduced Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. This is the planet where Darth Sidious a.k.a. Palpatine resided and built his Final Order fleet.
This is definitely an interesting setting for a film and I’d be curious to know what story they plan on telling. Exegol was one of the oldest Sith bastions, dating back to about a thousand years prior to the fall of the Galactic Republic so there is a long history there filled with all kinds of stories to tell.
I thought Sleight was a fantastic film! If you haven’t seen it, it’s worth checking out. The director is a talented guy who also directed a monster film called Sweetheart. The filmmaker is still fairly inexperienced, and jumping from super low-budget films to a big-budget Star Wars movie could cause issues. We’ve seen this time and time again in Hollywood productions. But, hey! Maybe Dillard will pull off something awesome! I hope he does if this is a project that Lucasfilm plans on moving forward with.
We don’t know if this will be a theatrical film release or a Disney+ release, but I’m curious to see what comes of it.
