The Netflix phenomenon Stranger Things is confirmed to return in 2017, but it will still take place in the 1980s in Hawkins, Ind., according to Matt and Ross Duffer, the brothers who created the series. “I think we talked like a larger time jump where the kids are older now and it’s a different decade. That’s something we batted around from the very beginning,” the Duffers told Entertainment Weekly. “But for us, there’s still more story here [in the 1980s], there’s still things that are unresolved.” Many of the characters will return – and four new characters will be introduced – including a “tough and confident” skateboarding girl named Max, reports TVLine. As for that other mysterious girl, the future remains a mystery. “We don’t know about Eleven,” says Ross Duffer. “We leave that up in the air.” The Duffer Brothers also promise to expand the story beyond Hawkins and provide a closer look at the grim alternate dimension, the Upside Down.
